Welchen universitären Hintergrund haben Sie?
Ich habe Betriebswirtschaftslehre mit den Schwerpunkten Industriebetriebslehre, Organisationswissenschaften und Informatik an der Universität zu Köln studiert und anschließend in Organisationswissenschaften promoviert sowie an der Schnittstelle zwischen Organisations-/Managementwissenschaften und Wirtschaftsinformatik habilitiert.
What is your academic background?
I studied business administration with a focus on industrial management, organizational science and computer science at the University of Cologne and subsequently completed my doctorate in organizational science and habilitated at the interface between organizational/management science and business informatics.
Seit wann sind Sie dabei, was sind Ihre Aufgaben und welche Erfahrungen bringen Sie mit?
An der Universität in Koblenz bin ich schon seit 2003 aktiv, und seit 2007 habe ich die Forschungsgruppe für Informationsmanagement, Innovationsmanagement, Entrepreneurship und organisatorische Gestaltung auf- und ausgebaut. Meine Aufgabenschwerpunkte im Projekt liegen im strategischen Projektmanagement sowie der nationalen und internationalen Vernetzung unserer Aktivitäten. Meine Erfahrungen liegen neben Entrepreneurship gerade auch im Bereich der Internationalisierung und dessen Management.
When did you join the project, what are your tasks and what experience do you bring with you?
I have been active at the University of Koblenz since 2003, and since 2007 I have established and expanded the research group for information management, innovation management, entrepreneurship and organizational design. My main tasks in the project are strategic project management and the national and international networking of our activities. In addition to entrepreneurship, my experience lies in the field of internationalization and its management.
Wieso haben Sie das Projekt ins Leben gerufen?
Wir hatten uns schon mehrfach erfolgreich beim BMWi um Projekte zur Förderung von Existenzgründungen aus der Wissenschaft beworben und dabei Schwerpunkt auf den Ausbau der Gründungskultur der Universität in Koblenz, der regionalen Vernetzung sowie des Gründungsökosystems gekümmert. Die Internationalisierung unserer Aktivitäten war und ist der logische nächste Schritt. Der Schwerpunkt Afrika unseres Projektes knüpft an den “Marshallplan mit Afrika” des BMZ sowie die “Pro! Afrika-Initiative” des BMWi an. Ruanda, als das Partnerland von Rheinland-Pfalz, ist hierfür ein sehr geeigneter Partner, weil dieses Land sich sehr erfolgreich bei Innovationen und Entrepreneurship aufstellt und die University of Rwanda hierfür als unser konkreter Partner vor Ort ein hohes Potenzial eröffnet.
Why did you initiate the project?
We had already successfully applied several times to the BMWi for projects to support business start-ups from the science sector, focusing on the development of the start-up culture of the University of Koblenz, regional networking and the start-up ecosystem. The internationalization of our activities was and is the logical next step. The focus on Africa of our project is linked to the “Marshall Plan with Africa” of the BMZ and the “Pro! Africa Initiative” of the BMWi. Rwanda, as the partner country of Rhineland-Palatinate, is a very suitable partner for this, because this country is very successful in innovation and entrepreneurship and the University of Rwanda as our concrete local partner opens up a high potential for this.
Was verbinden Sie mit Ruanda? Waren Sie schon einmal in dort? Wenn ja, welche Erfahrungen haben Sie gemacht? Was hat Sie überrascht/erschreckt/begeistert? Falls nicht: Haben Sie vor, nach Ruanda zu reisen und wenn ja, was erhoffen Sie sich? Was zieht Sie an, was sind Ihre Erwartungen?
Ruanda als Land ist faszinierend, weil es sich in besonderem Maße innovationsoffen zeigt. Meine Erfahrungen aus persönlichen Aufenthalten vor Ort sind sehr positiv. Begeistert hat mich die Offenheit und das Engagement der Studierenden der University of Rwanda, mit denen wir schon gründungsbezogene Workshops durchgeführt haben. Die University of Rwanda hat ein großes Interesse an dem Thema Innovation und Unternehmensgründung. In diesem Bereich ist die Uni bereits gut aufgestellt, weshalb wir das Projekt auch auf Augenhöhe starten konnten.
What do you associate with Rwanda? Have you ever been there? If so, what experiences have you had there? What surprised/frightened/enthused you? If not: Do you plan to travel to Rwanda and if so, what do you hope to achieve? What attracts you, what are your expectations?
Rwanda as a country is fascinating because it is particularly open to innovation. My experiences from personal stays on site are very positive. I was impressed by the openness and commitment of the students of the University of Rwanda, with whom we have already held start-up workshops. The University of Rwanda has a great interest in the topic of innovation and business start-up. The university is already well positioned in this area, which is why we were able to start the project at eye level.
Welchen Erfolg wünschen Sie sich für das Projekt?
Ich wünsche mir, dass wir das Projekt so umsetzen können, dass wir unsere selbst gesetzten Ziele erreichen: Mehrere Startups aus Ruanda, die sich in Deutschland niedergelassen haben und ebenso mehrere deutsche Startups, die ihren Markt nach Ruanda erweitert haben. Außerdem hoffe ich, dass wir damit eine nachhaltige Wirkung erzielen und wir über die vier Jahre hinaus nicht nur mit der University of Rwanda kooperieren, sondern auch andere für das Projekt begeistern und in weiteren Ländern Afrikas deutsch-afrikanische Inkubatoren aufbauen können.
What success do you wish for the project?
My wish is that we can implement the project in such a way that we can achieve the goals we have set ourselves: Several startups from Rwanda that have settled in Germany and also several German startups that have expanded their market to Rwanda. I also hope that this will have a lasting effect and that we will not only cooperate with the University of Rwanda over the four years, but also inspire others to join the project and establish German-African incubators in other African countries.
