The first virtual kick-off event for StArfrica took place on June 10, where Prof. Dr. Korflesch presented the project and its goals. The four-year pilot project started on May 1 and is funded by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy. The aim is to build a continental bridge between Germany and Rwanda, i.e. Germany should become more attractive for African start-ups and, vice versa, we want to make market entry easier for German companies that want to set up in Africa. The logo therefore shows a bridge that unites the national colors of Rwanda and Germany. As a cooperation partner of ZIFET, the University of Rwanda plays an important role, as an incubator is to be established here to promote business start-ups from the private sector and to raise awareness for a possible establishment in Germany. As soon as it is possible again, a member of the German team will travel to Kigali to support the project locally. Rwanda is regarded as a melting pot for start-ups in East Africa and is of interest to companies from a wide range of sectors: these would include the energy sector and water management as well as waste disposal and recycling. Also of great importance are transport, mobility, digitalisation and – not to forget – the tourism sector. In order to support promising start-ups from Rwanda in their start-up, there is the EXIST founder scholarship, for which they can qualify. On the other hand, Germany is trying to draw attention to the StArfrica project with the help of entrepreneur events and to prepare the prospective founders for entrepreneurship in Rwanda and Africa with workshops. Once the construction of the bridge is completed, the foundation-related economic exchange between the two countries can take place: one can learn from each other and advance the economy in both countries.

Am 10.
