AI in education and society: The AISEER 2025 workshop at ECAI

On October 25, 2025, the second International Workshop on AI in Society, Education, and Educational Research (AISEER) took place in Bologna as part of the 28th European Conference on Artificial Intelligence (ECAI). Organized by the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) and the Universities of Koblenz and Bonn, the workshop brings together experts from computer science, education science, and social sciences to shed light on the diverse interfaces between AI, education, and society. The workshop pursued two complementary perspectives: On the one hand, technical aspects such as generative AI, learning analytics, and intelligent tutoring systems in the educational context were discussed. On the other hand, the workshop opened up interdisciplinary questions ranging from labor market research and the history of education to the ethical implications of AI use. With a keynote speech by Dr. Stefan Speckesser (University of Brighton) on AI-supported campuses, important ideas for the future of education were discussed.

The program included 17 presentations on highly topical issues: From the recognition of job titles in German texts to prompt engineering for educational applications and gender bias in YouTube recommendations, various facets of AI integration in education and society were examined. Particularly noteworthy is the interdisciplinary approach, which combines technical innovation with educational practice and social reflection. The workshop proceedings are still to be published. The AISEER workshop aims to establish a permanent community within the ECAI and thus make an important contribution to the interdisciplinary discussion on AI in education and society.
